Q. What is an Autocue / Teleprompter System?

An Autocue system is a display device that prompts the person speaking with an electronic visual text of a speech or script.

The teleprompter screen is placed at right angles to the camera lens. This screen displays the script in reverse, the words on the screen are reflected to the eyes of the speaker using a one-way mirror. The one-way mirror is at a 45 degree angle from the display screen and positioned directly in front of the camera lens. The camera does not see the text that the speaker sees. As the speaker does not need to look down to consult written notes or cue cards, he or she appears to have memorized the speech or be speaking spontaneously giving a much more professional look to the finished film.
